Sign Language Workshop with BERARTI Friends

The Puspaindah Mitra Creative Foundation, in collaboration with Transpark Mall Bintaro, organized a Sign Language Workshop themed “I Hear You,” inviting young people to become Wholehearted Empathy Friends (BERARTI) to learn Sign Language. The event, held on Saturday, October 29, 2022, on the ground floor of Transpark Mall Bintaro, commemorated International Sign Language Day (October 23, 2022) and Youth Pledge Day (October 28, 2022).

The workshop was opened by the Mayor of South Tangerang, Benyamin Davnie, and attended by Hj. Tini Indrayanthi (Chairperson of PKK South Tangerang and Advisor to Special Needs SMEs), Anggelina Sondakh, Raslinna Rasyidin (Artist and Social Observer), Rachmita Maun Harahap, ST., M.SN (Commissioner of the National Disability Commission). They were honored as Difapreneur Ambassadors by the Puspaindah Mitra Creative Foundation.

Approximately 70 participants from around South Tangerang attended the workshop. “The event received very positive response and enthusiasm, although registration was closed due to full quota, many still wanted to register,” explained Velly Kristanti, Chairperson of the Event Committee & Vice Chair of the Puspaindah Foundation. Enthusiasm also came from many social observers, artists, and other community members.

“Through this workshop, we aim to introduce and promote sign language to the Bintaro and South Tangerang community to encourage them to learn sign language, making it easier to communicate with deaf friends,” said Velly.

The inaugural sign language workshop focused on basic introductions. More in-depth stages will be taught in subsequent workshops, continuing in collaboration with Transpark Mall Bintaro.

Successful Deaf Friends also attended and motivated as mentors in this event, including Tri Erwinsyah Putra (Successful Deaf Youth Figure), the first Deaf Barista, MURI record breaker, Annisa Rahmania (Successful Deaf Young Girl), Ministry of Transportation staff, Ambassador for the Deaf, Nabil Rahmadi (Successful Young Deaf), and others.

Similarly, volunteers participated actively. Amelia (Highly Empathetic Young Volunteer), a student at the National University of Jakarta (UNJ) with a range of social activities, Sisterhoodgigs Women Musicians represented by NAZ3 Vocal, Austis Friends I’m Stars Band, Iman Dharmawan (Talented Young MC), and many other young volunteers who are part of the Puspaindah Mitra Creative Foundation.
